"Flashback: May 2006" is the first chapter of the Boku dake ga Inai Machi manga.
Summary[]
Satoru Fujinuma, a 29-year-old pizza delivery worker and aspiring manga artist, has his manga rejected by a major magazine editor because Satoru's influence as a creator was not clear in his work. Satoru is hurt by this and reflects on his past. While going out on a pizza delivery, Satoru experiences Revival twice before averting disaster by asking a little boy to cross at a different light. While trying to stop the truck (with a dead driver) that would have hit the boy, he is hit head-on by a car. This is witnessed by Airi Katagiri. He sees flashes of his past while he is unconscious, and wakes up in the hospital two days later with Airi at his bedside. Airi and Satoru talk about Satoru's guarded nature, the accident, and Airi's dream. Airi says she is not embarrased to talk about her dreams because she believes when you put something into words, it is more likely to come true. This strikes a cord with Satoru, and the words seem familiar to him. However, she refuses to tell Satoru what her dream is because they are not close, and she leaves his room. Satoru thinks about his childhood again and remembers Kayo Hinazuki, who he says died in their childhood.
